A few years ago, I had this friend who was doing everything to lose weight, from rigorous workouts to very terrible diets; nothing worked. While she was growing frustrated and confused, she decided to seek advice on where she was going wrong.
One of the best answers she got was from an fitness coach. He said to write down five reasons why she wanted to lose weight. She got a pen and wrote five very valid reasons why losing weight meant the world to her; here is the list:
I want to lose weight so badly because:
- I do not like the way I look
- I need to slim down because men prefer skinnier women
- I feel like the most overweight person in the room
- My stomach looks bloated
- People don’t like fat people
The coach looked at her list and told her that these reasons are the foundation of her problems. If you want to lose weight, it should never be because of what you think other people think about you, it should be because you want to better yourself for You!
You must learn to love yourself and be happy for who you are both inside and out. Only then will you be able to make changes to better yourself and do things for you. Your body will only perform to the extent of which you love it.
Self-love is the first step in the journey of self-development. You have to come to the point where you accept your body for what it is and see how you can make the best of it.
Once you learn to love yourself then things will be so much easier. You will stop worrying about what you think others are saying about you, your confidence will grow, your skin will glow, and you won’t be stressing about things that don’t matter.
If you still can’t love yourself then you are not ready to be truly beautiful and make progress with your weight loss journey. This barrier of negativity will be there forever and restrict you from breaking out of the mould until you learn to love yourself.
The only thing that matters are the things that matter to you. By learning to love yourself you will be able to start making changes. You will start giving your body the best treatment possible as you will have a good relationship with it. This means no more junk food, worrying, and lying around.
Instead you will be taking care of your body and giving it the activity needed, sufficient exercise, and a nutritionally balanced diet. This is all because you love yourself. If you and your body have a healthy relationship then you will take care of one another.
I work out a lot, not because I hate my body; I work out because I love my body and I want to keep it in good shape at all times; and my body rewards me by evolving with fitness, good health and confidence.
When you make these changes and take care of your body, then it will take care of you. The image you have always aspired to have will start to be unveiled after taking care of your body and loving yourself.
The curtains will be pulled and the better version of yourself will be there waiting, looking back at a previous version of yourself but both loving one another.
It is not about how you look, but how you feel. Yes many physical changes have been made, but the way you now feel will be 100 times better than previously. By loving yourself the changes needed were able to be made to make you more beautiful both inside and out.
You now walk with confidence, you hold yourself better, your body language is welcoming, your smile is back, and there is a health glow in your face. This is your inner beauty coming out and saying hello to the world.
It has been hiding for all these years because you didn’t love yourself. Now that it is out you must make sure that it never goes back in to hiding.
If you need a slimmer waist to attract someone, then that person is not worth your time. Either you are bigger or smaller, the people who love you right now would still love you. Let people love and accept you for who you are and not for the way you look.
If you can just stop worrying about how bad you think your figure is, you can invest that time in planning how to make the best of your present figure. And you will love what you see.
You need to come to the point where you will agree that beauty is really in the eyes of the beholder; if you don’t change the way you see yourself, most people are never going to change their view of you either. If you don’t love yourself, why should I?
Here is the list of reasons for my daily work out and rigorous diet:
- My body is sacred and I want to get the best of it.
- Fitness is the foundation of health and longevity; I want to stay fit and healthy for a very long time.
- I love my body and I treat it with all the love it needs.
- I love the way I look and I will continue to invest to look even better.
- I am my best admirer and I love what I see.
Stop comparing yourself with models on the front pages of fashion magazines; it is time to accept yourself, invest in yourself and make the best of your body. Your happiness should not be dependent on how slim you look or how well you have done your make up; you are beautiful the way you naturally look.
Always remember, the best way to lose weight is to focus on fitness and health. Once that becomes your aim, an inner glow begins to ignite your confidence and you will see your body evolving to match gracefully.
Love yourself, love others, and be happy!
